Center Spotlight: Raisa Mathies

Raisa Mathies armed stretched wide

Meet Raisa Mathies! Raisa is the Center for Family and Community Engagement’s Masters of Social Work Intern. She is currently earning her Masters of Social Work degree from North Carolina State University and has worked for the Center since August 2018. She is an incredible asset to our organization and deserves some recognition!

Raisa’s primary responsibility with the Center is to conduct policy and literature research to support the creation and revision of training materials. She also contributes by writing content for these training modules. Raisa is a team player and loves collaborating with her co-workers. Her work with the Center has helped fulfill one of her learning goals, which is to gain knowledge of child welfare policy and practices and how this affects families and communities. The Center has certainly benefited from Raisa’s expertise, and we know her future will be full of success.

Raisa will soon move on to complete her clinical practice in social work. During this next chapter, she intends to work with children who have special health care needs and their families. Raisa has enjoyed her time with the Center, especially the working environment. She thinks the Center has a supportive environment where everyone’s strengths and opinions are solicited, respected, and incorporated. The Center has challenged her to learn new skills and abilities that she will carry into her future career. We have been very fortunate to have Raisa on our team, and cannot wait to see where life takes her next.

In her spare time, Raisa enjoys spending time with children, mentoring young women, and traveling in order to experience new cultures and build relationships with others. She also spends quite a bit of time reading, especially in nature. Raisa can often be found in parks, the mountains, or gardens with a good book. Everyone here at the Center for Family and Community Engagement appreciates Raisa and all she does for our organization. We wish her the best of luck as she moves forward in her career!

This appraisal of Raisa Mathiesl comes as no surprise, I once had the opportunity to work with this young lady when she a part time job with the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL), whose output was nothing short of discipline, integrity and inteligence. I knew she would be outstanding.

    1. Marianne Latz says:

You were right. Her experience in Liberia helps inform her work here. We are lucky to have her.
